To travel or not to travel

It all begins with an idea.

To travel or not to travel is a question that balances personal priorities, circumstances, and goals. Traveling offers exposure to new cultures, perspectives, and experiences that can foster personal growth and broaden understanding. It can also provide opportunities for relaxation, adventure, and connection with others outside one’s usual environment.

At age 68 and having worked for decades, I suddenly realized that I really hadn’t seen the world much less parts of the US. I have traveled in my day job to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, and even Haiti but those aren’t considered a vacation spot. So I decided to switch my time priorities. Instead or seventy percent work and thirty play, I switched them around. There are problems with this arrangement, one being an income. It requires time, financial resources, and energy. It may pose logistical challenges and sometimes unexpected risks, such as health concerns or safety issues. For some, staying local or focusing on immediate surroundings allows greater focus on stability, work, or family commitments. Ultimately, the decision to travel hinges on evaluating what aligns best with your current lifestyle and objectives. Whether you choose exploration or staying put, both paths offer valuable opportunities for learning and fulfillment. My decision started with the idea of creating a travel website so that I could share my experiences with others and hopefully my followers of the site would share theirs. The other motivated part of my decision to travel was the thought of what’s over the horizon. The excitement of the adventure and telling the rest of the world, hey look what I found!

At my age, I also realized that life is way too short and working yourself into an early grave isn’t for me. I had to stop and think that all the stuff I had accumulated was just that, stuff! In another twenty or twenty five years, all those things including my house will be someone else’s. So my vote is to travel and start living my life for once. Who knows guys, we may meet out on the road. Be safe out there!

Box Canyon, Ouray Colorado

Explore Box Canyon Falls in Ouray, Colorado with a scenic walk through a narrow gorge. See powerful waterfalls, historic mining equipment, and stunning canyon views. This immersive video captures the roar of the falls, a metal catwalk hike, and a look back at Ouray’s mining past. A must-see stop on any Colorado mountain trip!

Nestled in the heart of Ouray, Colorado, Box Canyon Falls is where the raw power of nature meets the remnants of Colorado’s mining past. In this immersive video experience, we take you on a walk along the metal catwalk along the canyon, leading to the roaring waterfall itself — all while highlighting hidden pieces of history along the way.

What You’ll See in the Video:

We begin just before reaching the falls, walking along a catwalk suspended above the canyon floor. Early on, you'll spot old mining equipment still resting in the riverbed — a silent reminder of Ouray’s rich mining history. A nearby sign explains how the force of the waterfall is so powerful it could supply electricity to most of the town.

As we move deeper into the canyon, you’ll hear the waterfall before you see it. The sound is overwhelming in the best way — echoing off the stone walls and making it clear why this is such a memorable stop.

The falls soon come into view, thundering through a narrow gap in the rock, and we take time to explore the area from above and below. After descending a stairway attached to the canyon wall, we reach river level for a dramatic close-up of the crashing water and towering canyon walls.

Why Visit Box Canyon?

  • Accessible yet dramatic: It’s an easy walk with big visual payoff.
